Hi there everyone and Happy Thursday!
My name is Mary and I am a junior Communication Studies major. I was a Business Marketing major until last Spring when I took COMM 40 and loved it and realized I wanted to major in Communication Studies instead. I have taken COMM 101C and 144F last semester. I have taken three online classes at San Jose State so far and am taking two this semester (both communication studies courses). I’ve found online classes have taught me to be diligent, disciplined, organized, and better time management skills.
I do use Facebook as a networking resource and used to have MySpace in high school. What I hope to gain from this course is how using networking sites and the different technology can influence us as an individual and as a society and how people communicate differently virtually in comparison to in person.
A little bit about me… I am a hardcore SF Giants fan, and have grown up around it my whole life. My favorite sport is baseball in general, and although most people find it to be one of the most boring sports around, I on the other hand, not only find it fascinating and intriguing, but inspiring especially since it is America’s past time. So one can imagine since this past year when the Giants won the World Series, that was the best Christmas gift any fan can want and wish for. I love being in the outdoors and love walking different places. Lake Tahoe is my favorite vacation spot, been going there every summer with my family since I was a little girl. I love people and love making others around me smile and laugh.
I look forward to getting to know everyone more throughout this semester.

Hello there Little Miss Daisy!
ReplyDeleteI am happy to see a familiar face. Your words on my blog were inspiring. They truly serve as a model to those who wish to make a positive impact on others.
COMM 144f was a wonderful adventure. Dr. Webb is an excellent professor. BTW, I remember your energy and enthusiasm in regards to the Giants at the end of the Fall semester. I am gad you switched your major. It is always amazing to hear a success story like yours. I believe that as long as you are doing what you love, you are successful.
As for your walks in the outdoors, which country shall we rendezvous in? :P
Aww thank you for your kind and inspring words as well Jay from the Bay!
ReplyDeleteYes it truly was! I wish he teaches another undergraduate comm class. Aww haha thanks yeah, I teared when my boys won :) they more than earned it after over 50 years! I definitely agree with you that as long as you do what you love, you are successful. Actually, my dad has told me that before. It is very true!
Hmmm, well I heard Greece and Ireland are wonderful places to hike in and just enjoy the nature there. I hope to go to both someday!
If you can choose today, 3 different countries to visit, which ones would you choose?
I hope you're right about the online classes. This will be the first one I've ever taken. I tend to procrastinate even with physical classes, and really hope I don't let the online nature of this one become my downfall.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like an incredibly cheerful person. The sort than can be contagious, in a good way.
If I had to choose three... they would be:
ReplyDelete1) Spain
2) Australia
3) Taiwan
I really want to visit Taiwan because I plan to teach English there when I graduate. I would love a sneak preview before moving there. :P
Greece and Ireland will definitely see me! They might just have to wait a decade or so :P
BTW, hello Trevorsaurus! This is my first online class as well. I am sure we will do fine. From what I have read in both the course schedule and the participation handout, it appears that we will not have the opportunity to procrastinate. Haha!
Hope to talk to you both soon,
Jay from the Bay
Hey Little Miss Daisy,
ReplyDeleteWhen asked what I hoped to gain from this course I couldn't quite seem to put my expectations into words, but after reading your intro post.. I have to say "Ditto". haha.
I have also recently switched to Comm. Studies. I originally started off as an English major but after taking Comm 101C two semesters ago, I realized that I am much more interested in communications and more excited about where I can take a degree in Comm. in the future.
Go Giants!
